sonic booms over a maxfield parrish sky of pink
and blue.
glittering gold and dropping flares of blue, yellow, emerald
pink and white.
the lake reflecting every sparkle
in its ripples
and the scents of lilac
jasmine
maybe peony
filtering down through the canopy of trees and branches
and across the kids with their sparklers
screaming in the distance
down through the folds of my skirt
to my toes
buried in the dark
wet sand of the lake.
